Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are officially back as Rick and Evelyn O'Connell. Set photos from London show the pair filming The Mummy 4 together for the first time since The Mummy Returns hit theaters in 2001.

That's a long gap. Weisz sat out 2008's Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, with Maria Bello stepping into the role instead. Now the original team is reassembled, and it feels right.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing. You know them as Radio Silence, the team behind recent horror hits. That's a different vibe than Stephen Sommers brought to the first two films, but they know how to handle action and tone.

John Hannah is also returning, which means Jonathan Carnahan is back in the mix. New faces include Michael Johnston, though his role hasn't been detailed yet.

Fraser's had a career resurgence thanks to The Whale and other recent work. Weisz has stayed busy with prestige projects. Bringing them both back signals Universal is serious about honoring what made the original films work: chemistry, adventure and a sense of fun that never took itself too seriously.

The first Mummy in 1999 was a blast—a throwback to old serials with modern effects and two leads who made you believe in the romance and the danger. Returns cranked everything up and mostly pulled it off. The third film? Less said, the better.

This one has a chance to course-correct and remind people why they loved these movies in the first place. Fraser and Weisz earned that goodwill, and getting them back together is half the battle.

No plot details yet, but the fact that they're filming in London suggests a return to the globe-trotting structure that worked so well before. Whether it leans more horror or adventure will depend on how much Radio Silence leans into their strengths versus respecting the franchise tone.

For now, just seeing Fraser and Weisz on set together is enough. It's been a long time coming, and if the movie captures even a fraction of what made the first two work, it'll be worth the wait.
