Activision is staggering Modern Warfare 4 across three dates this October, and digital pre-order customers get early access to everything except competitive multiplayer.

The campaign unlocks October 16th for anyone who pre-orders any digital edition. That's a full week before the official launch, and it's enough time to knock out the story without spoilers flooding your feed.

Four days later, on October 20th, the DMZ extraction shooter mode goes live for the same group. If you liked the tension of Tarkov-style gameplay in previous entries, you get three days to learn the maps and stash routes before the general population floods in.

Full launch—including multiplayer—hits October 23rd for everyone, pre-order or not. That's when the playlist rotation, ranked modes and inevitable launch-week server hiccups arrive in force.

What you need to qualify

Any digital edition counts. You don't need the vault pack or the deluxe bundle. As long as you buy it digitally before launch, you're in.

Modern Warfare 4 arrives for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, PC and Switch 2. Early access works the same way no matter which platform you choose.

Why it matters

A week of campaign time means you can finish the story, mess around in DMZ and show up to multiplayer with your loadouts already sorted. You're not scrambling through tutorials while everyone else is grinding camos.

It's also a decent carrot if you were already planning to go digital. Physical copies still exist, but they're stuck waiting until the 23rd with no early perks.

If you're on the fence about pre-ordering, this is one of the clearer incentives Activision has offered in recent years. You're not paying extra for early access—you're just committing before launch day.
