Warner Bros. and Legendary have released the final trailer and a new poster for Dune: Part Three, Denis Villeneuve's last chapter in his Dune trilogy. The movie hits theaters December 18.

What it's about

Part Three adapts Frank Herbert's 1969 novel Dune Messiah. Timothée Chalamet is back as Paul Atreides, who is now Emperor and facing the fallout from his rise to power. The official synopsis teases political plots and a galaxy-wide holy war that threatens the future only Paul can see. If you've read the book, you know this isn't a victory lap.

The hype is real

Fans are already lining up. In London, more than 33,000 IMAX 70mm tickets for the BFI's screenings sold in a single day. The trailer has racked up millions of views across platforms. It also lands on the same date as Avengers: Doomsday, which sets up one heck of a pre-Christmas box office fight.

The Radazoid take

Villeneuve has done something nobody thought possible: he made Dune work on screen, after decades of the property being the sci-fi equivalent of a cursed tomb. A lot of us remember renting the 1984 David Lynch version and wondering what we had just watched. These movies fixed that.

The big question for Part Three is whether audiences go along with where the story goes. Messiah turns the hero's journey upside down and asks what happens when the chosen one actually wins. That's a braver story than most blockbusters would dare tell. Pick your screen now. And no, your phone doesn't count, no matter how big the case is.
