Paul Bettany is back as Vision in VisionQuest, the new Disney+ series that picks up with the White Vision introduced at the end of WandaVision. If you remember that finale, this is the version of Vision who got the original's memories uploaded into him but didn't get the emotional software that made him likable.
That's the hook here. White Vision has all the data but none of the feelings. He knows what happened, but he doesn't feel connected to any of it. It's an interesting setup for a character study, and it closes out what the show is calling the WandaVision trilogy.
The setup is grim
The first episode doesn't waste time. A character named Fiona, who owns a pub, gets shot and killed. That kicks off the plot and puts Vision on the run. A bounty hunter named Paladin, played by Todd Stashwick, gets hired to bring him in. It's a darker tone than WandaVision's sitcom pastiche, more of a fugitive thriller.
Tommy shows up
By episode two, Vision's son Tommy Shepherd appears, played by Ruaridh Mollica. If you followed the original show, you know Tommy and his brother were part of Wanda's constructed reality. Now he's here in the flesh, which raises questions about how that works and what it means for the larger story.
The problem with no emotions
The challenge with White Vision is that he's built to be cold. That worked for a few scenes in WandaVision, but carrying a whole series on a character who's deliberately flat is a gamble. Bettany's a good actor, but he's playing someone who's supposed to be distant and disconnected. That can get old fast.
If you loved WandaVision and want to see how the story wraps up, this is the final piece. Just know it's not going to hit the same emotional notes. It's colder by design, and that's either going to work for you or it won't.
