The fourth Mummy film starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz is officially happening. It's called The Mummy: Book of the Dead, and it's set to hit theaters on October 15, 2027.

Fraser returns as Rick O'Connell. Weisz returns as Evie O'Connell. That's the headline. Weisz sat out the 2008 film The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, so this marks her first time back since 2001's The Mummy Returns.

The supporting roster brings back familiar names alongside fresh additions: John Hannah, Oded Fehr and Kevin J. O'Connor are joined by Michael Johnston and Numan Acar. That's a blend of legacy characters and newcomers for a franchise that kicked off in 1999 under director Stephen Sommers.

Who's making it

Radio Silence's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing. The script comes from David Coggeshall. On the producing side, Sean Daniel returns after working on five earlier franchise entries. Clayton Townsend joins him, along with Project X Entertainment's team of Sherak, Vanderbilt and Neinstein.

Fraser and Jason F. Brown of Hivemind are on board as executive producers.

What this means

This isn't a reboot. It's a continuation of the Fraser-era films, the ones that balanced adventure, humor and practical effects in a way that still holds up. The original 1999 film worked because it didn't take itself too seriously but never felt cheap. If Book of the Dead can recapture that tone with a fresh directing team, it could be the kind of October release that fills a specific gap: fun, pulpy action for adults who remember renting VHS tapes on Friday nights.

October 2027 is a long wait, but at least there's a date. And a title. And confirmation that Fraser and Weisz are both in.
