RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. on Breaking Bad, died on October 12, 2026, in Texas. He was 34. A county official confirmed the death to TMZ, and his representatives remembered him as an actor, philanthropist and disability rights advocate. Variety later reported that his death was ruled a suicide.

Walt Jr.

Mitte was a teenager when he landed the role of Walter White's son on AMC's Breaking Bad, which ran from 2008 to 2013. Like his character, he lived with cerebral palsy, and he brought a toughness and a sense of humor to a kid watching his family fall apart. For a lot of fans, Walt Jr. and his breakfast scenes were the human heart of the show.

After the show

He kept working: a recurring role on Switched at Birth, the films Triumph (which he also executive produced), The Oak Room and The Unseen, and a lead voice role in the Netflix series The Guardians of Justice. He also modeled for Gap and walked the runway for Vivienne Westwood.

A voice for actors with disabilities

Off camera he spent years pushing for more roles for performers with disabilities. He was a spokesman for SAG-AFTRA on the issue, a celebrity ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy, received SAG-AFTRA's Harold Russell Award, and helped present Channel 4's coverage of the 2016 Paralympics.

The Radazoid take

Thirty-four is far too young. Mitte did what a lot of kids with a disability are told they can't do: he got on the biggest show on television and held his own next to Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, then spent his life opening doors for the next guy.

Our thoughts are with his family, his friends and the Breaking Bad family. If you or someone you know is struggling, you can call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any time.
