The Wolf Among Us Remastered is out: Bigby's back with a new Noir Mode
Telltale's 2013 fairy-tale detective story returns on PS5, Xbox, Switch and PC while the long-delayed sequel waits.

The Wolf Among Us Remastered is out today on PS5, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Switch and PC. It's a cleaned-up version of Telltale's five-episode detective story from 2013, and reviews aren't in yet, so here's what it is and what's new.
The original
Telltale released the first episode, "Faith," on October 11, 2013, and wrapped the series in July 2014. It's a prequel to Bill Willingham's Fables comics: fairy-tale characters hiding out in a run-down corner of New York called Fabletown, with Bigby Wolf, the reformed Big Bad Wolf, working as the sheriff. Adam Harrington voiced Bigby. Critics loved the story, the atmosphere and the comic-book look, and the full game scored 83 on Metacritic on PS4 and Xbox 360.
What's new
Telltale and co-publisher PM Studios promise enhanced visuals, refined characters and environments, upgraded animation, audio, resolution and frame rate, plus a new user interface and better accessibility options. There's more than an hour of extras: behind-the-scenes videos, cast interviews, galleries and deleted scenes. The headline addition is a new Noir Mode, made to look like a classic-era detective movie.
What about the sequel?
The Wolf Among Us 2 was announced at The Game Awards in 2019, survived Telltale's near-collapse and rebirth, and was confirmed again at Summer Game Fest this year. It's now slated for 2027, which makes this remaster a pretty obvious warm-up act.
The Radazoid take
Bigby is one of the best leading men games have given us: a tired, gruff guy with a bad past trying to do the right thing in a town that won't let him forget it. Every divorced dad who's ever been judged by his worst day will feel that. No superpowers, no speeches, just a man doing the job.
A Noir Mode is the right kind of extra. This story always wanted to be in black and white, smoking in the rain. If you've been waiting years for the sequel, play this first and remember why you cared. And yes, it's been long enough since 2013 that some of us rented it from Redbox. Ask your kids what that was.
